Sensory Features

Visual, Smells, Touch, Auditory

Our SensPods isn’t just a quiet space.

It’s a personalized multi-sensory environment designed so every child – or adult – can find their way to calm, focus, and emotional balance.

Instead of relying on one sense (only light, only sound, or only seating), the pod brings together:

Light

adjustable colours and

intensity to calm, energize,

or refocus

Sound

curated soundscapes,

music, or quiet that match

the moment

Touch & movement

soft seating, fidgets, and

sensory materials that

ground the body

Smell

gentle, child-friendly

scents that support

comfort and emotional

regulation

Each element can be customized, so

no two experiences are the same.

One student might need dim blue

light and soft music to de-stress;

another might need brighter light,

movement, and a more alert sound

to wake up and re-engage. The pod

respects that everyone's nervous

system is different – and gives them

tools they can control.

When you combine all of

these senses together, you

don't just get a "nice room."

You get a

complete self-

regulation system

: each

sense works on

something else

(attention, body

awareness, emotion,

energy level), and

together they create the

right conditions for

learning, social

connection, and well-

being.

How the Multi-Sensory System Works

Together

Visual (light & colour)

Soft, controllable lighting

reduces visual stress and

helps students feel more alert,

stable, and ready to learn,

while avoiding the flicker and

glare that are linked to

headaches and reduced

concentration in classrooms.

Auditory (sound & quiet)

Gentle sound or intentional

quiet gives the brain a break

from noisy hallways and

classrooms. For many

neurodivergent students,

managing sound is key to

lowering anxiety and

improving attention.

Tactile & proprioceptive

(touch, deep pressure,

posture)

Sensory tools like soft textures,

fidgets, and supportive

seating echo the strategies

used in school-based sensory

rooms and occupational

therapy, which are designed

to support regulation,

behaviour, and learning for

both sensory-seeking and

sensory-avoidant students.

Olfactory (scent)

Light, predictable scents can

become a "safety signal" for

the nervous system – a cue

that this is a calming,

regulated space. For many

students, especially those with

anxiety or sensory processing

differences, predictable

sensory input is more

important than "no input."

By giving students control

over these settings, the pod

turns them from passive

recipients into active

participants in their own

regulation.

Research on multi-sensory

environments shows that

when children can control

the sensory equipment, they

show better attention and

fewer repetitive behaviours.

What the Research Says

You don't have to take our word

for it. A growing body of work

supports the core ideas behind

our pod:

Multi-sensory learning boosts

attention and retention.

Educational research consistently

finds that when children engage

more than one sense—seeing,

hearing, touch, and movement—

they absorb and retain

information more effectively and

stay engaged for longer.

Sensory rooms improve self-

regulation and readiness to learn.

School-based sensory rooms are

described as powerful tools that

support self-regulation, learning,

and independence, helping

students reset when overwhelmed

and return to class more focused

and calm.

Multi-sensory environments are

especially helpful for

neurodivergent children.

Studies of multi-sensory

environments (often called

Snoezelen® rooms) report

improvements in sustained

attention, developmental skills,

emotional stability, and a

reduction in challenging or

repetitive behaviours for children

with autism and other

neurodevelopmental conditions.

Well-designed light and space

directly affect mood and focus.

Research on classroom

environments shows that poor

lighting and visually stressful

spaces are linked to headaches,

fatigue, reduced concentration,

and higher agitation; well-

designed lighting supports

alertness, mood, and

performance.

Sensory spaces support social-

emotional learning, not just

"calming down."

Sensory areas are increasingly

recognized as places where

children can explore feelings,

practice self-awareness, and

build friendships while learning

what helps them feel regulated.

Light

adjustable colours and intensity to calm,

energize, or refocus

Sound

curated soundscapes, music, or quiet that

match the moment

Touch & movement

soft seating, fidgets, and sensory materials

that ground the body

Smell

gentle, child-friendly scents that support

comfort and emotional regulation

Each element can be customized, so no two experiences are the same. One student might need

dim blue light and soft music to de-stress; another might need brighter light, movement, and a

more alert sound to wake up and re-engage. The pod respects that everyone's nervous system is

different – and gives them tools they can control.

When you combine all of these senses together, you don't just get a "nice room."

You get a complete self-regulation system: each sense works on something else

(attention, body awareness, emotion, energy level), and together they create the

right conditions for learning, social connection, and well-being.

How the Multi-Sensory System Works Together

Visual (light & colour)

Soft, controllable lighting reduces visual stress and helps

students feel more alert, stable, and ready to learn, while

avoiding the flicker and glare that are linked to headaches

and reduced concentration in classrooms.

Auditory (sound & quiet)

Gentle sound or intentional quiet gives the brain a break

from noisy hallways and classrooms. For many

neurodivergent students, managing sound is key to lowering

anxiety and improving attention.

Tactile & proprioceptive (touch, deep pressure, posture)

Sensory tools like soft textures, fidgets, and supportive

seating echo the strategies used in school-based sensory

rooms and occupational therapy, which are designed to

support regulation, behaviour, and learning for both

sensory-seeking and sensory-avoidant students.

Olfactory (scent)

Light, predictable scents can become a "safety signal" for

the nervous system – a cue that this is a calming, regulated

space. For many students, especially those with anxiety or

sensory processing differences, predictable sensory input is

more important than "no input."

By giving students control over these settings, the pod turns them from passive recipients

into active participants in their own regulation.

Research on multi-sensory environments shows that when children can control the

sensory equipment, they show better attention and fewer repetitive behaviours.

What the Research Says

You don't have to take our word for it. A growing body of work supports the core ideas

behind our pod:

Multi-sensory learning boosts attention

and retention.

Educational research consistently finds

that when children engage more than

one sense—seeing, hearing, touch, and

movement—they absorb and retain

information more effectively and stay

engaged for longer.

Sensory rooms improve self-regulation

and readiness to learn.

School-based sensory rooms are

described as powerful tools that support

self-regulation, learning, and

independence, helping students reset

when overwhelmed and return to class

more focused and calm.

Multi-sensory environments are

especially helpful for neurodivergent

children.

Studies of multi-sensory environments

(often called Snoezelen® rooms) report

improvements in sustained attention,

developmental skills, emotional stability,

and a reduction in challenging or

repetitive behaviours for children with

autism and other neurodevelopmental

conditions.

Well-designed light and space directly

affect mood and focus.

Research on classroom environments

shows that poor lighting and visually

stressful spaces are linked to headaches,

fatigue, reduced concentration, and

higher agitation; well-designed lighting

supports alertness, mood, and

performance.

Sensory spaces support social-

emotional learning, not just "calming

down."

Sensory areas are increasingly

recognized as places where children can

explore feelings, practice self-awareness,

and build friendships while learning what

helps them feel regulated.
